Everton Super Fans react to James Rodriguez-Marcel Brands report

Everton fans have expressed their dismay at Marcel Brands after a recent report surfaced over big-money Blues playmaker James Rodriguez.

The Colombia international, 30, was signed by Carlo Ancelotti from Real Madrid last year and immediately impressed as the club began the 2020/21 campaign in fine fettle.

However, his influence waned and his performances dramatically deteriorated to the point where a summer exit appeared inevitable.

That failed to materialise, however, and Rodriguez is set to stay on Merseyside until January at the earliest.

Football Insider have recently attributed that failure to secure a move to his “astonishing” wages, with Brands reported to have handed Rodriguez a £250,000-a-week salary when he arrived in 2020.

Here’s what our panel of Everton Super Fans had to say on that…

Rodriguez ended the 2020/21 campaign with six goals and four assists in the Premier League, a pretty average total considering the investment made on him.

He recorded as many yellow cards as he did assists.

However, those figures were achieved in just 23 matches.

That could be construed in two ways.

The positive is that, with more game time, Rodriguez could significantly boost those totals.

But is that likely? All the signals are that Rafa Benitez is not his biggest fan while last season’s injury records points towards a player who could be spending more time on the treatment table than the pitch.
