Everton Super Fans react to FA’s Pascal Struijk decision amid Richarlison-Burnley incident

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.

Everton fans have questioned the FA’s decision to uphold Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk’s three-game ban amid events at Goodison Park on Monday.

Struijk, 22, was shown a red card in Leeds’ 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Elland Road on Sunday after a challenge that left Harvey Elliott needing to be stretchered off the pitch.

Despite Elliott’s subsequent protestations that it was not a red card challenge, and that Struijk deserved to be absolved of any blame, the FA rejected Leeds’ appeal.

That struck a chord with Everton fans after an incident that occurred just a day after Struijk’s red card.

Burnley have been criticised in some quarters for their roughhouse tactics this season, and it was on display once again at Goodison Park this week.

There were some forceful challenges on Everton players, not least one from James Tarkowski on Richarlison in the second half of Everton’s 3-1 win.

Not even a free kick was awarded, let alone a red card and ban, for a challenge Gary Neville said “I don’t think has a place in football” [Monday Night Football, Sky Sports].

Our panel of Everton Super Fans have delivered their verdict on the controversy this week.
