Everton man Ben Godfrey discusses what motivates him
Everton star Ben Godfrey has revealed that his England call-up this year has motivated him to improve as a player.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the 23-year-old discussed why that call-up and being cut from the squad has only made him more hungry to succeed.
The former Norwich City man has established himself as a key player in the Toffees’ defence since he swapped Carrow Road for Goodison Park in 2020, and he seems determined to have a good career.

He said: “It is obviously great and a really proud moment for me and my family for me to be called up and something I will never forget.
“But when you have aimed to play for your country all your life, and you do it, then it can go a couple of ways.
“If anything getting cut from the squad just made me hungrier to improve as a player and showed me the levels I want to achieve, what I need to do and in no way, shape or form has that made me think, ‘That’s it, it’s done’.
“My aim from now on is to be called up to the squad and to remain in there for major competitions. People who know me will understand that as well. It has only made me hungrier.”
Godfrey has a great attitude.
This is fantastic to hear, and it is very clear that the Everton defender has big aims for himself, which can only benefit the Toffees.
The defender is very versatile can play at left-back or right-back but is most comfortable at centre-back.
He has been described as “outstanding” by Phil McNulty in the past and looks set to have a huge future both on the international stage and at Goodison [BBC].

Unfortunately, due to injury, he has only made one start for Rafael Benitez so far, but you would think he will become a key player for the Toffees both this season and beyond.
This is a great interview from the young centre-back, and it is a great insight into his mindset, and he clearly wants to reach the very top.
This is great news for Everton, who need to have more players like Godfrey in their squad, who aren’t just happy with staying in the Premier League.
In other Everton news, a reported transfer target has been encouraged to stay at his current club.
