Phil Kirkbride: Yerry Mina could be set to kickstart Everton talks for new deal
Everton defender Yerry Mina has started the season like a house on fire under the tutelage of Rafa Benitez.
The Colombian international has often split opinions at Goodison Park and has now entered the final two years of his deal.
Phil Kirkbride has suggested that will usually kickstart talks over a new contract and that Mina could be in line for a new bumper deal.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo this morning, Kirkbride made the major contract suggestion on Mina and his future.
“Mina is definitely at an important junction in his Everton career,” he wrote.
“He is now inside the final two years of his contract which, typically, kick-starts talks of a new deal – or focuses minds on how a player could be moved on to help a manager bring in new faces.
“That the answer to this does not appear abundantly clear, is fitting for a player who will divide opinion.”

Critical.
So with two years left, Everton will surely want to secure a new deal for Mina before he enters that final 12 months.
That is the period where uncertainty starts to creep in and other clubs start sniffing around trying to secure a cheap deal.
If there were any uncertainties regarding his ability, those have been thrown out of the window with some excellent displays this season.
Michael Keane has struggled heavily so far, and the return of Ben Godfrey alongside Mina could see our defence tighten up even further.
Time will tell if these talks are opened and progress quickly, but it appears as though it would be a very smart move by the club to secure Mina on another long-term deal at this stage.
