Gabby Agbonlahor agrees with Everton fan that Rondon was missing in 3-0 loss v Villa

Gabby Agbonlahor has agreed with an Everton fan that Salomon Rondon was missing in action during Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Aston Villa.

The Toffees suffered their first Premier League defeat of the new season at the hands of the Midlands outfit, and the 32-year-old Venezuelan striker was not able to make an impact on his first start.

Rondon was withdrawn after 63 minutes, with Andre Gomes replacing him, and Rafa Benitez would have wished Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not injured.

Everton

Sam, an Everton supporter, made his feelings clear on talkSPORT (as shared on their official Twitter account on Sunday afternoon), insisting the veteran striker is not good enough for the club.

He said: “Rondon, I forgot he was on the pitch until he got taken off.

To which Agbonlahor responded: “Yea”

Sam continued: “He touched the ball maybe four times. I’ve seen him play football for Newcastle and West Brom.

“He’s a good player but I don’t think he’s Everton standard. I really don’t. I would have loved if we bought a big name.”

Too early to conclude

Rondon has played just two games for Everton since he arrived at Goodison Park as a free agent in the summer, and one poor game is not going to sum up his career.

Benitez was keen on reuniting with the striker, and he definitely knows more about him and what he is capable of bringing to the table than Sam and Agbonlahor.

The Toffees struggled to create chances at Villa Park, and the South American cannot be blamed for not getting a lot of services.

With Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Pickford, Seamus Coleman and Richarlison all missing through injuries, the visitors were always going to struggle to get going.

Everton

They will look to quickly bounce back when they face Queens Park Rangers in midweek’s League Cup clash and host struggling Norwich City in the Premier League next weekend, and Rondon will surely be looking to open his account.

After 35 top-flight goals to his name in four seasons with the Baggies and Magpies, the Everton striker definitely has a lot to offer and cannot be labelled “not good enough” after just one bad game.
