Patrick Boyland shares Jonjoe Kenny verdict ahead of QPR clash

Everton travel to Queens Park Rangers this evening as they look to progress in the Carabao Cup this season.

Rafa Benitez is expected to ring the changes in London, with those further down the pecking order potentially starting.

One of those could be Jonjoe Kenny, who could replace Seamus Coleman who has already had injury issues this season.

The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland has been questioned by fans ahead of kick-off this evening, and if this could be his final chance.

Boyland responded in the Q&A, insisting that it will be a tall order for the player to return after being placed up for sale.

“Agreed but tall order for Kenny given he’s been surplus to requirements (and up for sale) for a while now,” he wrote.

Time to go?

Kenny has been out on loan to both Schalke and Celtic, failing to catch the eye while away from the club.

The Toffees have been looking for reinforcements in the window, with strong links to both Denzel Dumfries and Nathan Patterson.

Moves for those right-backs didn’t progress, but it shows Benitez wants new options in that role and Kenny isn’t really in his thinking.

Coleman is clearly getting on, and Kenny starting could simply be to rest the skipper and nothing to do with his younger competition.

The younger right-back is surplus to requirements for a reason, and regardless of starting tonight or not, it looks as though his future is away from the club.
