Gary Taphouse blown away by ‘Excellent’ Anthony Gordon
Gary Taphouse was impressed by Anthony Gordon’s link-up with Everton striker Salomon Rondon in the penalty shootout defeat against QPR on Tuesday.
Despite failing to beat the Championship side in regulation time, there were a handful of Toffees players who impressed on the night.
Gordon, 20, who’s just played 19 minutes of Premier League football this season, was handed his first start of the season against QPR.

He impressed well and there was a moment in the second half when the score was at 1-1 when his pass to Rondon could’ve materialised into a goal.
However, the Venezuelan’s touch let him down and nothing came off it.
Discussing that passage of play on the Carabao Cup’s world feed, Taphouse, a Sky Sports commentator, said, “That was an excellent pass from Gordon. He’s really looked lively today. Rondon should be doing more there.”
Sharp performance
Last season, Gordon played a total of 88 minutes for Everton in all competitions before he was loaned out to Preston North End.
However, it seems that Rafa Benitez is aware of the kind of talent he has on his hands at Goodison Park and is looking to integrate him into the squad and give him more game time in the coming weeks.

With Everton’s cup exit, his minutes are going to reduce, but if he keeps performing like how he did on Tuesday night, the Spaniard may have to include him in his matchday squads.
Against QPR, Gordon started on the left wing in a very fluid 4-2-3-1 system. While most wingers prefer drifting in and knitting play, he was quite happy staying wide.
He also linked up well with Lucas Digne who was constantly looking to overlap him and make things happen for the Toffees side.
Gordon also held his nerve to score a penalty in the shootout, but unfortunately, his side failed to get over the line at the end.
