James Rodriguez set to earn around £125,000-a-week at Al Rayya after Everton exit
Al Rayyan have unveiled Everton outcast James Rodriguez as their new player on, and WinSportsTV and W Radio Colombia journalist Pipe Sierra has shared his new wages.
The 30-year-old is set to earn around £6million per year at the Qatari outfit, and he will wear the number 10 jersey.
Al Rayyan already teased the announcement of their new recruit on social media ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Al Sadd before the official one, and Rodriguez has now left Everton after a season.
Sierra, who has updated about the deal since Sunday night, posted the information via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.
He said: “Al Rayyan plans to present James Rodríguez to the public on Thursday, after today’s game against Al Saad.
“10 will be the number that the Colombian uses.
“He will earn €7million per season (bonuses included).”
Fair enough
Rodriguez pocketed over £200,000-a-week at Goodison Park, but he is set to earn £125,000 per week in Qatar.
He refused to leave Everton for another European side as his suitors were not keen on meeting his demands, and it appears Al Rayyan got close to what he asked.
It is a fair deal for him, and his new club will hope he can justify his new wages after falling out of favour under Rafa Benitez.
The Toffees will be glad to see him gone, and bringing him to Merseyside is one of the transfer decisions they definitely regret.
The Blues were not able to properly recruit and splash the cash in the summer due to his presence, and Benitez is going to be a relieved man that he is off.
Everton have made a lot of recruitment mistakes since Farhad Moshiri became the majority owner, and things have to change going forward if they want to start pushing for the European places.
