Thomas Muller sends seven-word message to James Rodriguez’s Everton exit post

Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller has sent a message to James Rodriguez after the Colombian’s Everton exit post on Twitter.

Rodriguez, 30, joined Qatari club Al Rayyan on Wednesday after failing to make an Everton appearance since May.

The move has put an end to his brief stay on Merseyside that consisted of just 26 appearances.

The former Bayern Munich loanee wrote a farewell post on his social media accounts on Thursday afternoon, leading an ex-teammate of his, Muller, to wish him luck via his personal Twitter profile.

“All the best at your new club,” he wrote.

Popular figure

Rodriguez spent two years on loan at Bayern from Spanish giants Real Madrid, and no doubt Muller benefitted from a few of the Colombian’s deadly deliveries.

Such abilities have made Rodriguez popular with his teammates as he has forged a reputation as a creator, rather than someone whose pure instinct is to score goals.

Everton were not quite so lucky, however, as he supplied just four assists in 23 Premier League games last season, though he registered four in three domestic cup outings.

It just seemed to be the case that there was no obvious fit for Rodriguez in the Blues system – he was often deployed on the right, with a license to drift inside, but that then left the right-back exposed.

The ageing Seamus Coleman can’t quite get forward with the same intensity as old, while Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey, two centre-backs who often filled the captain’s spot, failed to provide much natural width down the right.

Rodriguez was also slacker in his defending, with his talents clearly suited to staying forward, and the Blues have been counting the cost of his arrival for the past few months.

However, they have now got his wages, at least a good portion of it, off the books.

In other Everton news, Simon Jordan has claimed the Blues are ‘another Derby’ and will need Farhad Moshiri to bail them out.
