Jack Cunningham Everton Fan Mailbag: Are the club planning on signing a right-back?
Every week we’ll be asking Everton fans on our Twitter account for questions that will be answered by Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham. You can join in by following the Goodison News Twitter account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.
Everton had a pretty decent summer transfer window as they managed to get rid of the likes of Moise Kean and James Rodriguez and signed a few hungry players for very little money.
However, they didn’t manage to sign a right-back, leaving them with just Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny.
However, Kenny is surplus to requirements, and Ben Godfrey was preferred to him on Saturday when Coleman was unavailable [Liverpool Echo].

We asked for your burning questions about the Blues this week for Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one Toffees fan asked about his club signing a right-back.

This is a great question from Stefan, and you would have to say that the Toffees have left themselves short in a vital position.
Coleman has been a fantastic player for the Toffees, and you would think that he still would have a couple of years left at the top level.
However, he is 32, and there will come a time when the Toffees need a replacement for him, but for now, they just need a backup really.
They have been linked with a move for Serge Aurier on a free, which looks like a good deal in some ways, but in others, it seems like a very poor signing [Liverpool Echo].
The 28-year-old has a lot of experience in the Premier League and in Europe and has a lot of good physical attributes.
However, you would think that he could be looking for a huge wage packet and has well-known disciplinary issues, which I can’t see Rafael Benitez putting up with [Mirror].
So I would be surprised if the Toffees signed Aurier, but there is no question that they do need a backup right-back, and I would expect them to make a move for one in January.
Until then, you just have to hope that Coleman avoids any serious injury.
In other Everton news, the club could make a January move for a former target.
