Harvey Elliott sends message to Lewis Dobbin following his Everton debut

Everton striker Lewis Dobbin made his competitive debut for the club during the 3-0 victory over Norwich City at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The 18-year-old replaced Alex Iwobi in the 89th minute, and while he did not see a lot of action, he was pleased to finally make his official bow for the senior team.

Dobbin came off the bench to play in the 4-0 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford during pre-season in August, but becoming a Premier League player has a special feel to it, and the Toffees forward took to his personal Instagram account to react after the game.

He said: “Wow. Truly blessed to have made my Premier League debut.

“A moment I’ve dreamt of since I started playing football.

“A great result and atmosphere and can’t thank the fans enough for the support. This is just the start.”

He has received a lot of congratulatory messages from his teammates and pals, and Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has also sent him his best wishes.

Top player for the future

Dobbin scored 10 goals in six games for David Unsworth’s under-23s during pre-season, and that attracted Rafa Benitez to him.

The Spaniard invited him to first-team training and a practice match against Accrington Stanley just some days after becoming Everton manager, and he has now given him his debut.

With Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin still out injured, the teenager will likely make the next matchday squads, and even if he does not come on, the experience will be worth it.

Dobbin is training regularly with the likes of Salomon Rondon, Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray, Iwobi and other Toffees stars, and that will come in very handy to aid his growth and development going forward.

He is not likely to play a lot of games for the first-team this term, but the youngster is one to watch out for given his massive potential and talents, and Benitez clearly sees a lot in him.
