Kevin Campbell: Everton must upgrade defensive options with big transfer
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has urged Everton to go out and splash the cash on a big-name central defender in the near future.
Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have struggled at times this season, and Ben Godfrey has once again been forced to play at right-back.
Campbell believes bringing in one top name at the back could be a massive upgrade for Rafa Benitez and it must be done.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I still think a defender is needed.
“I know they’ve got Mina, Godfrey, Keane and Holgate, but I still feel they need another because with injuries and there’s going to be suspensions.
“Everton need another one, they need a good one. I’d make a move for a top centre-half, that’s what they need. I think you upgrade that position and you’re in business.”

Who’s out there?
It is no surprise to see this position come up once again.
AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli has been linked with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks, and could he be the answer?
Calciomercatoweb have reported that the Toffees are planning to beat the likes of Juventus to his signature by launching a move in January.
With Romagnoli’s deal expiring at the end of the season, the Italian enforcer could be available on a cheap deal.
Marcel Brands will have money to play with in January and beyond after the exits of Moise Kean and James Rodriguez, and it looks as though this is where he may spend it.
