Kevin Campbell: Everton could send Lewis Dobbin on January loan amid contract talks

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell suggests Everton could send Lewis Dobbin on loan in January despite the forward’s recent emergence in the first-team.

Dobbin, 18, made his Blues debut last weekend as a late substitute in the 2-0 win over Norwich City at Goodison Park.

Subsequently, reliable Toffees insider El Bobble, followed by The Times journalist Paul Joyce and Kevin Ratcliffe on Twitter, has claimed that the club have opened talks with the teenager and his representatives over a new contract.

The Blues have had their fair share of centre-forward problems in recent times, with injuries playing their part.

However, with everyone fit, Rafa Benitez can call upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Salomon Rondon, Cenk Tosun and Ellis Simms, as well as Dobbin and Richarlison.

Therefore, ex-Goodison hero Campbell believes Dobbin’s recent chance at senior level may well have been a clever tactic to tie him down to extended terms.

Campbell told Goodison News: “It’s a little sweet one, isn’t it? You make your debut at Goodison and you get that feeling from the club, you’re going to sign a new contract, it’s like ‘great, what’s next? I’m in with the first team.’

“The next minute, you’re back with the Under-23s, or come January you’re going on loan. It will be good for the young man to get out on loan and get some minutes under his belt.

“But you know what? It’s something you can’t take away from him, he’s come on at Goodison Park and he’s shared in a win bonus!”
