Michael Owen impressed by Abdoulaye Doucoure in Everton 1-1 draw v Man Utd
Everton held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Andros Townsend’s second-half equaliser cancelling out Anthony Martial’s opener.
The summer signing continued his fine start to the new season, putting a well-struck strike beyond the reach of David de Gea who remained rooted to a spot.
The Toffees hit Man Utd on a counterattack led by Demarai Gray, and Abdoulaye Doucoure was on hand to provide Townsend with the perfect assist.
Michael Owen was blown away by the performance of the French midfielder at the Theatre of Dreams, taking to his personal Twitter account to react after the game.
He said: “Fully deserved point for Everton.
“Doucoure outstanding.
“Man Utd not playing well and have a stinking set of fixtures in October and November.”
Massive player
Doucoure has two goals and four assists in seven Premier League games so far, and not even many attackers can boast of such numbers at the moment.
He scored just twice and assisted thrice in 29 league games last term and is on course to triple that return.
The Everton ace is one of the most reliable midfielders around, and he has now started to add goals and assists to his name.
If he continues at this rate, he could end up forcing his way into the France national team ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
The Toffees have a solid box-to-box enforcer, and he has stepped up in the absence of the injured attackers.
Doucoure is slowly becoming an Everton hero, and he could prove very crucial to their chances of finally making it to Europe with his contributions in the final third.
