Everton-linked Serge Aurier completes Villarreal move
Everton-linked Serge Aurier has completed his move to Spanish side Villarreal on a free transfer.
The Ivorian was a free agent after his contract at Tottenham Hotspur expired and now the La Liga outfit have made an official announcement about his signing.
According to The Liverpool Echo, Everton were also linked with a move for the former Spurs right-back.
Marcel Brands has overseen an underwhelming window after making countless mistakes in past summers, leaving the club in a financial rut.
This summer, not signing a right-back was undoubtedly one of the biggest mistakes he’s made during his time as Director of Football.
Seamus Coleman, who is on the wrong side of 30, is also extremely injury prone and has missed a few games already despite only a handful of Premier League matches played thus far.
Ben Godfrey has had to deputise at right-back, but it is not the same as having someone accustomed to playing that role in that position.

Aurier would’ve been the ideal signing for free and even if it didn’t work out, there wouldn’t be anyone pointing fingers at Brands.
If a club competing in the Champions League deems him to be a good player, then it makes little sense why Everton passed up on the opportunity to sign him.
He was undoubtedly the best free agent right-back left on the market and now the club will have to wait for January to strengthen in that department.
