Richard Keys reacts to Sir Alex Ferguson’s comments on Everton v Manchester United

Richard Keys has issued his response to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Cristiano Ronaldo comments on Manchester United’s draw against Everton.

In a video posted on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s official Instagram, relayed via Mirror Football on Twitter, the ex-Red Devils boss, who won two Champions League trophies during a storied managerial career, can be seen telling the mixed martial artist that Ronaldo should have started the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

“You should always start with your best players,” Ferguson said.

Keys, beIN SPORTS anchor alongside ex-Blues star Andy Gray, delivered his verdict on the video that has caused controversy online, with many suggesting it undermines current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“Sir Alex Ferguson ‘Ronaldo should’ve started against Everton’. We all knew that,” Keys wrote on his personal Twitter profile.

Big Blues boost before kick-off?

There’s no doubt that most people affiliated with Everton would have been happier seeing Ronaldo left out of the Manchester United starting XI on Saturday.

Widely regarded as one of the best players to have graced the game, Ronaldo has made an instant impact upon his return to Old Trafford after leaving Juventus in the summer.

The 36-year-old scored five goals in his first five games, all as a starter, but he was forced to adopt the unfamiliar role of substitute against Everton.

He was unable to make a significant contribution when he came on, failing to score and seeing the away side equalised through Andros Townsend within 10 minutes of his arrival to the pitch.

The Red Devils threw everything they had at Everton, but the Blues rearguard stood firm against mounting pressure, with Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane key figures in shutting the Portuguese and his teammates out.

In other Everton news, this Blues star has branded a talkSPORT pundit ‘Mr Clickbait’ after sharing his verdict on Mohamed Salah.
