Tony Bellew lauds Ben Godfrey after Everton post one-year anniversary of Norwich City transfer
Tony Bellew has expressed his admiration for Everton defender Ben Godfrey on the one-year anniversary of his move from Norwich City.
Godfrey, 23, signed for the Blues in a £20million deal [Sky Sports] on October 5 2020 and has since made 41 appearances, picking up the Young Player of the Season award during his first campaign at the club.
Everton tweeted his one-year anniversary on Tuesday morning, leading ex-boxer and Blues fan Bellew to reply “a brilliant addition” via his personal Twitter profile.
Warrior
Godfrey has already made himself a mainstay in this Everton side.
He clocked up 36 appearances during his first season at the club, operating in a variety of positions, including both full-back roles, as his versatility earned him many admirers.
Indeed, he has been operating at right-back under Rafa Benitez in recent weeks with Seamus Coleman sidelined through injury.
He was a solid performer once again on Saturday as the Blues drew 1-1 at Manchester United to continue their impressive start to the season under Benitez.

Eventually, however, it is expected that Godfrey will revert to his natural centre-back position, where his pace and power are crucial characteristics, ones that earned him an England call-up earlier this year.
Amidst a slew of unsuccessful signings under director of football Marcel Brands, Godfrey has emerged has one of the best.
