Everton were heavily linked with a move for Donny van de Beek during the summer transfer window, and they even had a loan deal lined up.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed on Rio Ferdinand Presents Five podcast that Everton had even agreed a deal to sign the 24-year-old on loan, but United pulled a plug on the move in the end.

Marcel Brands confirmed the interest and has even hinted that a switch could still yet happen in the January window.

The Dutch midfielder joined the Red Devils from Ajax for a fee of £35m for Ajax, and managed just four starts in the Premier League in 2020/21.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him to be a part of his side but he has dropped further down the pecking order at the club this season, following the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has managed just four minutes in seven games in the league and was taken off at half-time in the Champions League defeat against Young Boys.

Brands has described him as a “very good player” and has hinted this week that he could still end up playing for the Toffees this season.
