Former Everton man Nikola Vlasic’s father reveals why his son failed at the club

Nikola Vlasic’s father believes that the reason his son’s move to Everton didn’t work out was because of his positioning in the team.

Speaking to Croatian outlet Nacional, the player’s father went into his son’s time with the Toffees in great detail.

He believes that because the 24-year-old had to play as a right-winger while he was with Everton, he never got to show what he was truly capable of and when Ronald Koeman was sacked, that was the end of the road.

He said: “The circumstances did not go his way. Everton were boosted that summer by extremely expensive midfield reinforcements, paid 25 to 43 million euros, who had to play, and he was placed in the right-wing position. Nikola is the best in the midfield as a ten or as an eight.

“Nikola got a little bit, but more and more chances on the right-wing, where he cooperated with the then reserve option, the right-back who used to go very low, almost to the goalkeeper’s wing, and Nikola was left with a huge space that he had [to cover constantly].

“The coach was soon fired, and his successors had some players of their own and some other ideas.”

Comprehensive stuff.

This is a very detailed account of why Vlasic struggled with the Toffees, and it is very clear that his dad doesn’t blame him.

In fairness to Vlasic, he joined in the summer of 2017 the same transfer window that saw Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen join as well.

So it is no wonder that he didn’t get any games in his favoured position because those two cost more money and had bigger reputations in the game.

It just seems as if Vlasic was at Goodison Park at the wrong time and had he arrived at a different time; he might still be there.

However, he isn’t, and he is now at West Ham, where we wish him all the best under David Moyes.

This is a very detailed interview from Vlasic’s father, and if you are interested in the Croatian, we recommend you take some time out of your day to read it.
