Roma in contact with Denis Zakaria ahead of 2022 free agency, Everton reportedly held August talks
Everton reportedly held talks over signing Denis Zakaria in August but the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has recently been approached by Roma.
That’s according to Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport, who claim Roma director Tiago Pinto has been in contact with the “powerful” [Daily Mail] 24-year-old’s entourage in order to find an economic agreement for a potential future move.
The 34-cap Swiss international sees his Monchengladbach contract expire in June 2022, and it is claimed that he could even make a January exit from Germany in order to sign for the Giallorossi.

That could be news that alerts Everton, with German news outlet BILD BILD journalist Christian Falk reporting via his personal Twitter profile in August [10/08/21] that the Blues were in talks over his transfer, alongside Roma, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Blues boost in midfield?
Everton’s current first-choice duo in the middle of midfield have started the season on fire, and there are unlikely to be plans to break up the partnership Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have formed.
Both have been all-action in their displays for the Blues under Rafa Benitez, with the latter given a new lease of life and paying the Spaniard back with goals and assists.
However, both are on the wrong side of 28, and they will need some help later in the campaign and next season, where a European run is not out of the question.

Everton’s current deputies consist of Andre Gomes, Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
However, Gomes and Davies are yet to show any sort of form that would rival that of Doucoure and Allan, while Delph and Gbamin are too injury prone to be relied upon.
Making a move for Zakaria would make sense to offer competition and a third option in midfield against higher-calibre opposition, but Roma appear to be firm favourites at the moment.
