Besiktas president discusses Cenk Tosun’s future at Everton

Besiktas president Nur Cebi claims that Cenk Tosun will return to the Turkish club from Everton in 2022.

Speaking to Turkish broadcaster Aspor [via Liverpool World], Cebi claimed that his club have “promised” the 30-year-old that he can play wherever he wants.

Tosun was linked with a move to Besiktas in the last transfer window who he joined the Toffees from for £27million [Sky Sports] in January 2018, and now it appears as if he will be returning at some point [Fotospor].

He said: “With regards to Cenk Tosun, you have my word. He is a football player who made money for our club.

“He suffered an unfortunate injury. I hope he returns well and very soon.

“We have promised him; he can [play for us] whenever he wants.

“For Kaan Ayhan, we will [make moves] when January comes.

“If we do make two transfers [in January], those will be Cenk and Kaan.

“[A move for] Cenk Tosun may also be in May. His contract is expiring [next summer].”

In 58 appearances for the Toffees, Tosun has scored 11 goals in all competitions.

He has struggled with injuries in his time on Merseyside, but considering the Toffees forked out a large transfer fee for him, he really hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Tosun is now 30, and his contract expires at the end of the season, so if the Toffees can make any money from a sale in January, then that would be good.

However, it would probably be fine if they just get rid of him and move him on because the move hasn’t worked for either the player or the club, and it is time to forget about Tosun.

Given that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been injured for a chunk of this season, you might have thought that Rafael Benitez would include Tosun in recent matchday squads, after recovering from his own injury, but he hasn’t, not even once.

So, it is clear that Benitez doesn’t rate him, and we hope that he leaves in January.
