Everton were irritated they didn’t go for the win against Man Utd
Everton held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw prior to the last international break, but Rafa Benitez insisted the game was there to be won.
The Toffees manager said after the game that while picking up a point was not bad, his side had everything it took to leave with all three points [Liverpool Echo].
According to Independent’s chief football writer Miguel Delaney, the Blues were not happy they did not go all out for a win at Old Trafford.
He revealed the information on his personal Twitter account during Man Utd’s 4-2 loss to Leicester City on Saturday.
Delaney said: “Was told by someone in Everton set-up that they were irritated after the Man United game as they regretted not going for it.
“They felt United there for the taking. “No fear factor, no coherence”
“Which is incredible given the expense of their talent.
Missed chance
Leicester tore the Red Devils into shreds at the King Power Stadium, coming from behind to lead 2-1 before scoring two late goals after Marcus Rashford initially drew his side level.
Despite the array of talents at Man Utd’s disposal, they have a lot of weaknesses as exposed by the Foxes, and Benitez knew Everton missed a huge chance to pick up two more points a fortnight ago.
Having played without the injured Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Toffees had limited attacking strength despite the brilliance of Demarai Gray, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andros Townsend.
They host West Ham United later today and will be looking to secure a win in order to continue their impressive run.
Having failed to go all out against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, Benitez could have different ideas when the Hammers come visiting and for subsequent games.
Everton are looking to break into Europe, and they will need to take bolder approaches in some games if they are to pick up necessary points.
In other Everton news, Benitez has admitted he finds it hard to understand Toffees man sometimes.
