Tim Sherwood: Benitez done a brilliant job at Everton

Tim Sherwood has credited Rafa Benitez for doing a good job at Everton amid the circumstances he was appointed.

The Spaniard has had to cope with James Rodriguez leaving, very little money to strengthen the squad, and injuries to a number of key players.

However, despite the plaudits he sent Benitez’s way, Sherwood does not expect the good times to last for too long.

He said on Premier League Productions before the game against West Ham on Sunday, “Given the circumstances, [he] has done a brilliant job so far. Without Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison, to get those results is impressive.

“But, I don’t see it going on too far. I see them finishing mid-table.”

Baffling

Sherwood said all the right things about Benitez but then ended up with a mid-table finish, which is pretty surprising.

Even despite so many things going wrong last season, Everton still managed to finish in the top half.

Until the last day of the season, European football was within reach and if a few games had gone their way, it would’ve been attained.

For Sherwood to think that Everton are worse now than they were last season is pretty ridiculous.

Despite all the things that have gone against Benitez, he’s still managed to deliver a good start to this season and the club are still in the European places.

With few good signings in January, a top-six finish does not beyond reach and we expect this side to be competitive right until the business end of the season.
