Fitness coach Cristian Fernandez joins Everton from Newcastle

Fitness and rehab coach Cristian Fernandez has reunited with Rafa Benitez at Everton after five years at Newcastle United.

According to Chronicle Live, the Spanish manager brought him to St. James’ Park from Northampton Town in 2016, handing him his chance in the Premier League.

With new owners now in charge at Newcastle, back-room changes are underway, and Fernandez has left on good terms.

The coach took to his personal Twitter account at the weekend to post about the update.

Sharing a picture of Goodison Park, Fernandez said: “New chapter, new home.”

Solid addition

The Toffees boss is always looking for ways to improve his squad, and this behind-the-scenes appointment could prove beneficial in the long run.

Benitez raided Newcastle’s backroom team to bring head of sports science Jamie Harley to Everton earlier in the summer, and more arrivals from Tyneside could be on the cards.

Given their injury struggles so far this term, the Goodison Park side could do with more help in terms of their overall fitness level, and landing Fernandez should come in handy as Benitez knows he can be of great help.

Everton

Being without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in recent weeks have dealt a huge blow on Everton, and hopefully, the new man can help speed up their recoveries.

More changes are expected at Newcastle, and with some of the playing staff set to be available, the Toffees manager could be looking to raid his old club for some quality signings in January and next summer.

In other Everton news, Benitez has admitted he finds it hard to understand Toffees man sometimes.
