Former Everton man James Rodriguez torn into for move away
Colombian journalist Carlos Gonzalez has ripped into James Rodriguez after he left Everton for a move to Qatari club Al-Rayyan.
Writing in the Colombian version of Marca, the journalist slammed the 30-year-old for appearing to chase money above everything else.
The 30-year-old left the Toffees outside of the transfer window after just one full season at Goodison Park, and it seems as if Gonzalez is unhappy he made the move.

He said: “At 30, James is supposed to be the best age for a footballer. However, he has taken an incomprehensible step for those of us who admired his football. Watching the game last Sunday, October 17, between Al Rayyan and Al Duhail is like being treacherously stabbed with a knife.
“Who has convinced James to change the Premier for the Qatari League? If you have only done it for money, it is very sad. If he did it because he can’t stand Rafa Benítez, even more so.”
Brutal verdict on the Colombian.
Gonzalez raises two points, and we think it would be right to have a look at both.
For his new club, Rodriguez is said to be earning £215,000 per week, while with the Toffees, he was said to be on over £200,000 per week [Semana].
So, he seems to be on roughly the same amount of money, but possibly slightly more.
Now, Gonzalez also mentions his relationship with Rafael Benitez, and this could be where the problems are instead.

The Spaniard and Colombian were said to have had a frosty relationship at Real Madrid [Mirror].
Then, Rodriguez was told that he was surplus to requirements, but after he failed to leave before the transfer window closed, it looked like he would be stuck with the Toffees [Liverpool Echo].
However, then this move materialised, and it seems as if it hasn’t gone down well in his home country, while the Toffees can think about how to use those wages they saved.
