Andros Townsend sends message to Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has suffered a serious foot injury and he is likely to be out for a while.

According to reports from The Guardian, Doucoure has broken his foot. He is facing an extended spell on the sidelines with a fractured metatarsal.

He has been in terrific form for the Toffees and the 28-year-old will be heavily missed. Everton have confirmed that he will not require surgery.

The dynamic midfielder has taken to Twitter to express his reaction. He said that he is “very disappointed” but on the flip side, it could have been “a lot worse”.

Doucoure is confident that he will come back shortly. He has also taken to Instagram to post a message. Club teammate Andros Townsend has responded to his post, saying – “Need you back soon brother.”

Big blow

Fabrizio Romano has suggested on Twitter that Doucoure is likely to be absent for six to seven weeks.

His injury is a massive blow to the Toffees, and Rafael Benitez is now short of options in midfield. The likes of Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes are also injured at the moment, and the Spaniard will hope that Tom Davies will now step up in their absence.

The likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also barely featured, although the Brazilian could be fit to play against his former club Watford on Saturday.

Benitez has revealed that Calvert-Lewin may need more time to return to action. It will be interesting to see how Benitez shapes his team up tactically following the return of Richarlison and the loss of Doucoure.

Everton suffered their first home defeat of the season last week after losing 1-0 to West Ham. The Toffees have slipped to eighth in the league table, with 14 points, just a point behind fourth-placed Brighton.
