Everton among PL quintet leading charge for temporary ban on related-party sponsorships
Everton were among a quintet of Premier League clubs leading the charge for putting a temporary ban on related-party sponsorships in the Premier League.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa were also “vehemently” in favour of the proposal, with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish leading calls for a vote to be held over it.
The idea was discussed in Monday’s Premier League emergency meeting that one club executive called the “most astonishing” they had ever attended.

The furore was caused by the recent takeover of Newcastle United whose managing director, Lee Charnley, threatened legal action if a vote was passed to block the Magpies from making lucrative sponsorship deals.
Boo to the Toon?
It appears that Premier League clubs are mobilising in their efforts to crack down on Newcastle and their future aspiratiosn.
18 clubs, apart from Newcastle and Manchester City, have voted in favour of “introducing a temporary amendment that bans new commercial opportunities involving pre-existing business relationships going through” [The Athletic].
Interestingly, though, Everton were brought up as an example of a club that have gone down a similar route to the one Newcastle are attempting.

USM Holdings, who are owned by Farhad Moshiri’s business partner Alisher Usmanov, agreed a reported £12million-a-year deal to re-name Finch Farm to USM Finch Farm
They have also concluded a £30million deal to gain an exclusive option of sponsoring the club’s future new stadium.
Therefore, do the Blues have a leg to stand on when it comes to Newcastle’s plans?
It would be good to hear the club’s stance and how it differs from their North-East rivals.
Otherwise, the Magpies can easily point to double standards in the Premier League, and their stance will be strengthened.
In other Everton news, the Blues have made contact over this striker that Pep Guardiola called ‘Incredible’, and a January transfer is on the cards.
