Andres Gomes returns to Everton training after calf injury

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has been spotted in training after recovering from a calf injury that kept him out of action.

His last appearance for the Toffees came on September 21 in the EFL Cup defeat against QPR.

While he may be training, Liverpool Echo claim that they’re not sure whether or not he was back with the team, so it remains to be seen if he’ll be fit enough to play on the weekend.

Relief

Abdoulaye Doucoure’s injury came at the worst possible time for the Toffees as Gomes and Fabian Delph were both ruled out of action.

However, for Rafa Benitez to have Gomes back in action is a welcome thing and he’ll be hoping that he returns to full fitness sooner rather than later.

Gomes was admired by Benitez’s predecessor Carlo Ancelotti who helped the Portugal international play some of his best football over the last few years.

Earlier this year, after an away victory against Leeds at Elland Road, the Italian singled out Gomes for special praise. [Official Twitter handle]

He said, “In my opinion, tonight, the best player on the pitch was Andre Gomes. He played technically, physically, tactically a fantastic game. This is the real Andre Gomes. The real Andre Gomes that we need.”

Everton

Despite reports linking him with a move away from Goodison Park, Everton need Gomes now more than ever.

While Tom Davies is expected to start along with Allan in Doucoure’s absence, the moment Gomes is deemed fit enough, he’s likely to play ahead of the Englishman.

This weekend against Watford seems unlikely but we hope to have him back for next Monday’s clash against Wolves.
