Kevin Campbell: Alex Iwobi needs to dust himself down at Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has urged Everton winger Alex Iwobi to dust himself down and start again to end his bad run of form.

The Nigerian international came back into the side in place of Anthony Gordon, despite the youngster shining at Old Trafford.

Campbell believes that whatever could go wrong, did go wrong for Iwobi against West Ham, and things need to change.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think Gordon was good at Old Trafford.

“Again, it’s a different game, a new team and the managers sets it up as he sees fit. Within that team and system, it’s about players performing and Alex Iwobi doesn’t need me to say he didn’t have his best game.

“So, what could go wrong, did go wrong. This is a footballers’ life sometimes, whatever you try, can go wrong but you’ve got to keep going.”

Dropped?

Will Rafa Benitez be contemplating another change to his side for the upcoming clash against Watford?

Gordon didn’t put a single foot wrong at Old Trafford during that draw with Manchester United, yet he was still dropped.

We can’t remember the last time Iwobi did something that valued his spot in the starting XI, but yet here is in the side.

Gordon will be pushing for his spot back this weekend, and it may be down to Iwobi to dust himself and prove himself off the bench – time will tell.
