Everton Women’s Expert runs rule over Jean-Luc Vasseur amid Blues boss links
We’re delighted to welcome Peter MacFarlane, member of the Everton Women Official Supporters Club, as our exclusive Everton Women expert.
Jean-Luc Vasseur has emerged as the favourite for the Everton Women manager’s job since Willie Kirk’s departure on October 16.
Kirk paid the price for a poor start to the season that saw them win just two of their first six games, losing the other four.
Those defeats – against Manchester City [twice], Chelsea and Arsenal – have come at an aggregate of 16-1.

Attention has turned to Kirk’s successor, though the club, to date, are yet to announce who that will be.
However, the Telegraph reported last week [18/10/21] that former Lyon head coach Vasseur is the “preferred candidate”.
After the report emerged, Goodison News asked Peter MacFarlane, member of the Everton Women Official Supporters Club, for his take on the Frenchman’s potential appointment.
“It’s time to look to the future and it’s looking increasingly likely that Jean-Luc Vasseur will be the man to take over,” MacFarlane told Goodison News.
“Vasseur has such a high pedigree given his time at Lyon where he won the treble, including the Champions League. His time at Lyon means that he comes with the experience of working with the best players in the world under the biggest pressure in women’s football.
“It’s easy to dismiss a manager’s accomplishments when they manage such a great side, but it takes a certain type of manager to be able to get the best out of these players week in, week out, as we see so many times in football when teams who are expected to dominate, ultimately fall short.

“If he is to be appointed it’s another sign of the ambition of the board who want to see Everton challenging and not just making up the numbers. It’s about time that the dominance of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal is challenged, and Everton really are looking to take the challenge seriously.
“It may take time, and there may be some difficult decisions along the way, but I have every faith that we will get it right, starting with the appointment of a proven winner.
“It’s exciting times to be a blue!”
