Jean-Philippe Gbamin feels fit as ever at Everton

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is feeling as fit as he’s ever been since joining Everton, according to The Liverpool Echo.

Standing at 6ft 1in, the midfielder is highlighted as a player whose height could help the club while defending.

Defending set pieces has been the Toffees’ Achilles heel for a while and given Abdoulaye Doucoure’s injury, Gbamin could come in place of the Frenchman and help address the issue.

He may be required to show more consistency in training to win over the support of Rafa Benitez.

Welcome news

Gbamin almost does not seem like an Everton player, given how rarely he’s been fit and available for selection.

Since joining the club he’s suffered from numerous injuries and has proven to be one of their biggest flops in recent years.

However, the timing of this fitness boost could not be any better and he must do all he can to convince Benitez that he’s ready for the challenge.

Against Watford, Tom Davies may have scored, but he’s not got that kind of positional awareness as Gbamin.

Neither will he contribute as much as the 26-year-old on the defensive end as well as during set pieces.

Ideally, a move to a three-man midfield including Allan, Gbamin and Davies/Andre Gomes could prove to be beneficial for the Toffees.

They’ve been getting overrun in the middle of the park far too often and hopefully, the manager is working on solving that issue.
