Kevin Campbell: Everton unlikely to get rid of Benitez

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes Everton are unlikely to get rid of Rafael Benitez despite some fans booing him on Saturday.

The Spaniard was the subject of boos from the home end when he decided to take Anthony Gordon off and also as Watford fired in more and more goals [Mirror].

However, despite this, the former Toffees forward can’t see Benitez going anywhere just yet.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “You are talking about an appointment that split some of the fanbase anyway.

“So the fact of the matter is, any chance some fans get to beat the manager with a stick, they’re going to take it.

“I don’t think there’s going to be much movement on the inside of Everton football club with the manager because I think the manager has done a pretty decent job.”

Benitez to remain at Goodison Park.

It seems ridiculous that after only three defeats from the Toffees’ first nine league games, we are sitting here talking about Benitez’s future.

Yes, there were some fans who didn’t want him to get the job, but he has done a pretty good job given the circumstances [Daily Mail].

Now, it has been reported that Newcastle United want him back, so that could be one to watch, but surely the Toffees won’t sack him [Gianluca Di Marzio]?

It is not as if he has had huge amounts of money to spend on the squad.

He has improved most of the players he has at his disposal and is just trying to manage while the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin remain injured.

Therefore, we agree with Campbell and can’t see why the Toffees would get rid of Benitez, given what he has had to work with and the injuries he has had to deal with.
