Rafa Benitez invites managers to Everton for special programme

Earlier this week, Everton boss Rafa Benitez invited the likes of Gareth Ainsworth and Robbie Fowler to Finch Farm as part of a League Managers Association programme.

This opportunity invites managers to share advice and experiences from their careers and who better to speak to than former Champions League winner Benitez.

The 61-year-old has also plied his trade with Spanish giants Real Madrid and more recently in Italy with Napoli.

With nearly 30 years of experience in coaching and management, the Spaniard spent time this week offering advice and tips to managers who are earlier in their careers.

Wycombe Wanderers manager Ainsworth was full of praise for the Toffees boss, he said: “I was lucky enough to be invited into Everton to watch Rafa take training.

“He’s a phenomenal manager and I can’t thank him enough for the invite. It was a real intimate day with one of the greatest managers this country has seen.

“It was brilliant to get an insight into how they do things at the top level and there were plenty of learnings for me. I never want to stand still. The LMA are great at arranging these events and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity.”

Special.

Ainsworth has been Wycombe Wanderers manager for nearly 10 years but this LMA programme means managers can continue to learn from others despite the level they’re currently at.

Robbie Fowler most recently managed in India with East Bengal and his connections with Rafa remain.

It wasn’t the best time to arrive at Finch Farm we imagine, especially after what went down over the weekend.

That 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Watford will have still been hot on the mind, and everything will be going into training to ensure we bounce back at Wolves.

Let’s hope this didn’t disrupt those plans.
