Paul Merson predicts the result of Everton vs Wolves clash
Everton visit Molineux on Monday to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, and they will look to bounce back from back-to-back Premier League defeats.
The Toffees have lost their last two league games against West Ham United and Watford, and Rafa Benitez will be keen to appease the fans and leave the Midlands with an impressive result.
Paul Merson does not see that happening, though, tipping Wolves to secure a narrow win over Everton given their recent form.
He wrote in his Sportskeeda column while predicting a 2-1 win for the hosts: “Everton conceded four goals in the last 15 minutes against Watford and were in complete disarray.
“They have a lot of work to do ahead of this game, and I don’t see them mounting an immediate recovery from what was an absolutely shocking result.
“Wolves have been a good team so far, but they’ve been unlucky. They’re in a bit of a false position at the moment, and they’ve played well but haven’t been able to put their chances away.
“They were undone by a stoppage-time penalty last weekend, and I’d back them to go the distance against Everton.”
Tricky
Benitez’s side have continued to be plagued by injuries this term, and that could affect their chances of winning at Wolves.
Yerry Mina remains out, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not returning to action anytime soon.
With their key centre-back and influential striker missing in action, the Goodison Park outfit have their work cut out for them against a Wolves side that have continued to improve in recent weeks.
Bruno Lage’s side were a few seconds away from making it four straight victories against Leeds United last weekend, and they have got the quality to make life hard for Everton.
The Merseysiders were able to secure some hard-fought victories some weeks ago despite missing some of their best players, with Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray stepping up and delivering the goods in the final third.
With Richarlison back in action, the attacking trio could be a handful for the Wolves defence on Monday night, and they have what it takes to lead their side to a much-needed victory.
