Everton fans applaud Anthony Gordon during Wolves defeat

Anthony Gordon was one of the few Everton players to receive a positive reception from the fans on Monday, per the Liverpool Echo.

The Toffees faithful had every reason to be disappointed with their side’s performances as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Wolves.

However, Gordon was one of the good performers for Everton, and got a huge roar from the fans when he came on.

After full-time, he went to the away end to applaud the fans and was cheered on by the people who stayed past the final whistle.

The Echo report reads, “Shortly after being introduced, the winger tracked back and used his strength to get himself in front of an opponent before making a strong tackle to make sure he won possession back for his side.

“That was met with an “Ohhh Anthony Gordon!” chant from those supporters on that far side, who were delighted to finally see some desire and commitment from one of their stars.

“After the full-time whistle, the academy graduate went straight over to those travelling fans to applaud them for making the trip, and he was one of very few to receive that appreciation back.”

Gordon’s finding his feet in the Everton first team under Rafa Benitez, but is already starting to emerge as a fan favourite.

The supporters have a special attachment for youngsters who’ve come up the ranks and Gordon is no different.

He’s been at the club since the age of 11 and has played for different age groups before making his senior bow for the Toffees.

His brief spell on loan at Preston North End last season prepared him for some regular first-team minutes and he has become Benitez’s option to turn to when things are not going well.

While Alex Iwobi may have scored against Wolves, Gordon still appears to be a more reliable player and he could start over the former Arsenal attacker in the coming months.
