Everton Super Fans react to Michael Keane display in 2-1 loss v Wolves

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.

Everton fans have delivered their verdict on Michael Keane after Monday night’s dismal 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves.

The Blues were second-best as the home side raced into a two-goal lead at half-time through Max Kilman and Raul Jimenez, with Hwang Hee-chan also seeing an effort ruled out by VAR for offside.

Alex Iwobi pulled a goal back in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the Blues paid for their first-half defensive disaster-class.

We asked our panel of Everton Super Fans for their thoughts on Keane after the 28-year-old defender’s shaky performance at the heart of the Blues backline.

Here’s what they had to say…

Time up?

Keane was bought from Burnley for big money in 2017 but the 12-cap England international has failed to live up to his reputation as one of the finest central defenders in the country.

In fact, he has regressed to the point where he has made just two national team appearances in the last two years, with the likes of Conor Coady (Wolves) and Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa) well ahead of him in the pecking order now.

He was supposed to be the lynchpin of the Everton defence, but he has been anything but recently.

Yerry Mina has established himself as the club’s most dependable centre-back when he can make it onto the pitch while Ben Godfrey is surely primed for a long career in the middle of the Blues backline.

Benitez must be targeting another central defender in the next few transfer windows, and that could spell bad news for Keane and Mason Holgate, who should be looking over their shoulders and fearing for their futures.
