Lucas Digne to be assessed ahead of Tottenham after missing Wolves clash

Everton left-back Lucas Digne missed his side’s game against Wolves due to a muscle problem, according to The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland.

The Toffees made a late decision on the France international, 28, ahead of Monday’s game to the West Midlands, and further checks will be carried out on him to know if he will be available for their next game.

Everton suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Wolves and will be looking to bounce back on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur following three defeats on the bounce.

Boyland confirmed the injury blow ahead of the Monday night clash on his personal Twitter account.

He said: “Muscle injury keeps Lucas Digne out.

“Will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s game against Spurs.”

Costly

Ben Godfrey was drafted in at left-back against Wolves, and it did not particularly go down well.

The versatile defender committed an error leading to goal, with his intended back pass to Jordan Pickford intercepted by Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican striker doubled his side’s lead as a result of the gift from Godfrey, and Everton were only able to halve the deficit after 90 minutes.

Things could have been different had the reliable Digne played, with his English teammate failing to impress when he was needed most.

Tottenham will be looking to start life without Nuno Espirito Santo with a victory, and they could have Antonio Conte in the dugout for the trip to Goodison Park.

Everton need Digne back for the clash to boost their chances of winning, and they could do with Yerry Mina, too.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure are expected to miss the game as their rehabilitation continues, and Rafa Benitez has to find a way to avoid defeat with some of his key players still on the treatment table.
