Simon Jordan defends Yannick Bolasie after Everton fan tears into transfers post-Wolves defeat
Simon Jordan has defended Yannick Bolasie after an Everton fan included the DR Congo international as one of the club’s biggest recent mistakes.
Bolasie, now 32, was signed by Everton in 2016 for around £28million [Sky Sports] after four successful years at Crystal Palace.
However, he left on a free transfer earlier this year after just two goals in 32 appearances during his five years at the club.

After Everton’s 2-1 defeat at Wolves on Monday night, an Everton fan, Tom, phoned up talkSPORT‘s ‘White and Jordan’ show on Tuesday morning [02/11/21] to discuss the various errors the club have made in the transfer market in recent years, highlighting Bolasie and Cenk Tosun while also questioning the role of chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale.
“Wow…that’s fairly scathing, Tom,” Jim White said after the Everton fan’s criticism.
Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan replied: “Obviously I’m going to defend Yannick Bolasie because he’s a former [Crystal] Palace player and obviously the injury put paid to whatever Yannick could or couldn’t do at Everton, because I think he was worth the money that you paid in the form he was in at the time.
“But you have to ask yourself the question, what’s Marcel Brands doing? Because he’s supposed to be the intellectual capital behind the acquisition policy that Everton have.”

Where to start…
The signing of Bolasie is just one of many failures made by Everton since the arrival of Farhad Moshiri in 2016.
While Bolasie was one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League when Everton bought him from Palace, it was a widely-held view that the Blues had paid over the odds for someone with only nine Premier League goals to his name in 90 appearances.
They couldn’t account for his subsequent injury issues, but the club have certainly added to their woes in the transfer market since, and director of football Brands can take a large share of that blame since his appointment in 2018.
Remarkably, the Dutchman was handed a new three-year contract earlier this year.
The state of the squad in recent weeks, exposed by a slew of injuries to first-team stars, has shown the importance of making the right signings in the next few transfer windows.
Brands has a big job on his hands to address some key areas and help Rafa Benitez push the Blues on to greatness.
