Simon Jordan: Ramsdale has strong argument to be England’s No 1 ahead of Pickford

Simon Jordan insists Aaron Ramsdale has a strong argument to be England’s number one ahead of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford at the moment.

The Arsenal man has sparked debate following his incredible performance against Leicester City at the weekend, and many want him starting ahead of his Toffees rival for England.

Jordan is in support of the motion, insisting the 23-year-old is streets ahead of Pickford when it comes to playing out from the back.

The former Crystal Palace owner said on talkSPORT (as shared on their official Twitter account): “He was not just phenomenal with the save from the freekick and the number of saves. Distribution, I think he’s beyond Pickford.

“I think he’s on a different level to Pickford. Some of the balls he played out were absolutely unbelievable in terms of the accuracy, the power and the precision.

“He has a really strong argument on current form to be the number one of his country.”

Huge claim

Gareth Southgate has preferred Pickford as his first-choice since 2018 due to his ball-playing abilities, and no one has been able to rival him until now.

Ramsdale is blowing everyone away with his precise passes, and the Everton ace has cause for concern.

Rafa Benitez has often played direct, and that is not likely to do Pickford any favours if his Gunners counterpart keeps impressing.

While he has always had solid performances with the Three Lions, there is no denying that Southgate would be tempted to hand Ramsdale a chance during this month’s international break.

He has shown what he is capable of doing for Arsenal, and everyone wants to know what he can do with the national team.

Pickford has to respond with some series of eye-catching displays going forward, and Everton should benefit from the competition.

His starting berth is on the line, and he needs to show that he still very much has what it takes to be England’s No.1.
