Dominic Calvert-Lewin posts injury update via Instagram

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin posted an Instagram story on Thursday to provide fans with an update on his injury and recovery process.

The 24-year-old sustained an issue with his quadriceps – along with a broken toe – in Everton’s 2-0 victory over Brighton back in August. He has been absent ever since, so far missing seven Premier League fixtures for the Toffees.

His return to action has been eagerly awaited and, although not quite ready, the striker posted an Instagram story (via Everton FC News) of himself looking sharp while doing recovery exercises.

Big miss

Calvert-Lewin has predictably been a big miss for Rafael Benitez’s side. The striker has been a different beast ever since Carlo Ancelotti took the helm in December 2019.

After scoring 29 league goals across the previous two campaigns, the 24-year-old commenced 2021/22 in similar fashion, netting in each of Everton’s opening three league fixtures (Transfermarkt).

His strong start to the season coincided with his club’s. After being ruled out, however, Benitez’s side soon lost to Aston Villa and have now gone four matches without a Premier League win, tasting defeat in their last three.

Salomon Rondon and Richarlison have both led the line in his absence but have managed one strike between them since Calvert-Lewin picked up his injury.

Rondon, who has been Benitez’s preferred outlet up top, is yet to find the net since his summer arrival. Following the news that the club has blocked his international call-up, it’s become clear that he’s nowhere near the required level of match fitness to replicate Calvert-Lewin’s influence.

The 24-year-old is not ready to make a return just yet, but considering the hole he’s left while on the sidelines, pictures of him looking sharp in recovery should breed optimism among the Toffees faithful.

In other Everton news, Cenk Tosun has been linked with a departure from Goodison Park.
