Rafael Benitez discusses potential Everton move for Aleksandr Golovin

Everton manager Rafael Benitez insists that it is too early to discuss transfer targets for January.

The Spaniard was asked about the Toffees’ apparent interest in Aleksandr Golovin from Monaco, but he dismissed the question in his latest pre-match press conference [Liverpool Echo].

According to Championat, the Toffees want to sign the Russian international, but Benitez is too clever and experienced to be drawn into answering a question like that.

He said: “If you ask me one week before January, then maybe I could say something, but it’s too early.”

Expected response from Benitez.

This was a bit of an odd question as we could hardly imagine Benitez confirming that he was interested in Golovin.

That could encourage other teams to make their move and potentially scupper any deal that the Toffees have lined up for the 25-year-old.

However, he is a very good player and would be an excellent addition to this Toffees team.

He has been described as “sensational” in the past by the Ligue 1 website and has a wealth of international and European experience.

This season, he has started off pretty well, and he has scored three goals and provided three assists in 15 games in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side.

So, you can see just why the Toffees want Golovin to be part of their team, but it was no surprise to see Benitez diplomatically avoid answering that question.

However, it will be intriguing to see what happens in January and if the Toffees decide to make a move for him or not.
