Michael Brown left baffled by Fabian Delph’s yellow card for Everton

Michael Brown was left baffled by the referee’s decision to book Everton man Fabian Delph in the game against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees managed to secure a 0-0 draw to stop the run of three league defeats in a row and turned in a much better performance.

However, Chris Kavanagh’s decision to book Delph in the first half left him beyond baffled [Tottenham’s website].

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, the former Leeds United man said: “Not sure. Look at his reaction.

“He [makes] a really long slide tackle Delph.

“He touches the ball. You can see straight away; he touches the ball.

“I have seen him do it many, many times.”

Brown clearly not happy.

The 31-year-old made his first Premier League start of the season and put in a combative display in the middle of the park.

However, Kavanagh deemed that he was perhaps too combative in the first half after a slightly late challenge on Lucas Moura.

However, Brown believed that he got the ball, and therefore, it shouldn’t have been a booking for Delph.

Luckily, this didn’t lead to a red card, but he did have to be a bit more careful in the second half until Rafael Benitez decided that he couldn’t risk him any longer.

Overall, though, this was a much better display from Delph, and he provided a solid presence alongside Allan even if neither made little attacking impact on the game.

Either way, though, Brown wasn’t happy with this decision, and he was probably right to be annoyed by it.
