Everton Super Fans suggest Mason Holgate exit after red card disaster v Tottenham
This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park
Everton fans have delivered their reaction to Mason Holgate’s brief substitute appearance against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Holgate, 25, was dropped from the starting XI for the visit of the North London side to Goodison Park as Ben Godfrey replaced him at centre-back following Lucas Digne’s return to action.
He was, however, used from the bench by Rafa Benitez as Allan was forced from the field.

It was a shocking 10-minute display, though, as Holgate was dismissed for a high challenge on Danish international Pierre-Emile Hjobjerg following a VAR review.
We asked our panel of Everton Super Fans whether Holgate could win his place back when he returns from his three-match suspension.
Here’s what they had to say…

Time ticking
Holgate is now 25-year-old, and his tag as a young defender making his way in the game is starting to wear off.
That early potential that saw Everton pluck him from Barnsley as a teenager has never been realised, despite shoots of hope.
He was poor under Carlo Ancelotti last season and has done little to show Benitez that he deserves more opportunities.
The Spaniard favoured a Yerry Mina and Michael Keane partnership at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign before Ben Godfrey came back into the picture after recovering from COVID.
Holgate is firmly fourth in the pecking order, and he will be pushed down again if the Blues sign a new central defender next year, something that looks likely given recent frailties in the backline.
In other Everton news, Roy Keane has pointed to the Blues as a big example in a passionate Sky Sports rant.
