Anthony Gordon aims to be Everton’s best player
Everton attacker Anthony Gordon completed his first 90 minutes for the club during Sunday’s goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur and is now eyeing an international debut.
The 20-year-old recently received a maiden England Under-21 call-up and is expected to see action when Lee Carsley’s side take on the Czech Republic in Thursday’s crunch European Championship qualifier.
The Toffees academy graduate has big dreams, and one of his targets is to become the club’s best player.
“I’m big on goal-setting – I do it at the start of every season,” Gordon told Sportsmail.
“My aim is to be Everton’s best player, whether that be this year, next year, however long it takes.
“I see myself as a game-changer and a matchwinner for Everton. At the minute, I’m playing really well but I’m not winning games for us.”
Great to see
Gordon is not exactly at that level of being a game-changer and a matchwinner yet, but that he sees himself as one speaks volumes.
Not many 20-year-olds will publicly say they plan to become the best player at their club, but the youngster is aiming high, and going by what fans have seen so far, he is right on track to reaching those lofty heights.
The Everton faithful are huge supporters of his already, and it is not surprising that there was sheer anger from around Goodison Park when Rafa Benitez substituted him with 30 minutes left to play against Watford [The Athletic].
He has only started three Premier League games this term, coming off the bench five times and is yet to assist or score a goal.
However, Gordon has shown hunger and desire every time he is on the pitch, and if he continues at this rate, becoming the best player at Goodison Park is definitely possible.
That would take a lot of hard work and consistency, but those look like the least of his worries going by some of the traits he has displayed so far.
