Kevin Campbell compares Mason Holgate red to Aaron Cresswell tackle this week
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Mason Holgate can have no complaints after he was shown red in the 0-0 draw against Spurs.
The defender came off the bench at Goodison Park, but still was shown his marching orders after a shocking tackle on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell was only booked for a similar tackle against Liverpool, but Campbell believes Holgate used more force.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It’s a red card.
“You don’t set off for it to be a red card, but it’s the aftermath isn’t it? It’s being out of control that gets people sent off, we saw one similar in the West Ham game.
“The force that Holgate was coming at to Cresswell was a lot different. I think it was red, normally I would say no but the way games are officiated now it’s a red.”

Really?
These tackles were both red cards, no other words about it.
We can’t sit here and say Cresswell deserved to see red and then say Holgate should have stayed on the pitch – that wouldn’t have been right.
Force or not, Cresswell went over the ball and ended up with his studs on the knee of Jordan Henderson, so the initial point is irrelevant.
Consistency of officiating in the Premier League is simply shocking and is only getting worst, and that has to be addressed.
In other Everton news, this Toffees defender is being watched very close with a major exit on the cards
