Kevin Campbell reacts to Jeff Stelling sack suggestion on Everton & Rafa Benitez

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has hit back at Jeff Stelling claiming Everton boss Rafa Benitez may be the next in line for the sack in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke and Dean Smith were both shown the door in the past week, making it five sackings in total already this season.

Stelling claimed Benitez and Marcelo Bielsa could be next, something Campbell found ludicrous given the lack of transfer backing for the Spaniard.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “No, come on Jeff.

“It’s not going to be that. The difficult part for Rafa Benitez has always been, he didn’t have the funds to make a real difference in the summer.

“He didn’t have that opportunity. Benitez needs two windows at least to shape this club, and I think it’s such a chuck away statement to be pointed at Rafa.

“Let’s be honest, there aren’t many people out there who get the club and have the experience to handle that sort of club – what can he do without a transfer window?”

Everton

Don’t be silly.

Benitez has to be given time, it is as simple as that.

The fact that he started as well as he did was somewhat surprising given his lack of backing financially and the constant injuries.

Yes, both have caught up with the Toffees in recent weeks, but once our star men are back to fitness, that should change.

Look at who is missing – Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure to name two, and arguably our two best players.

No team can deal with that sort of blow, and Benitez must be given the chance to work his magic for longer than just a few months at Goodison Park.

These suggestions from the outside are simply laughable and can be ignored with ease.
