Dominic Calvert-Lewin confirms Everton injury return, shares likelihood of playing Merseyside derby

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has issued an update on his recovery from injury after spending more than two months on the Everton sidelines.

The 24-year-old has not featured since a 2-0 win at Brighton on August 28, but he has recently been seen training individually as he steps up his recovery.

The November international break has allowed him a further two weeks to get himself back in shape, and the England international appears to be positive of returning soon after giving a potential timescale for his return.

Calvert-Lewin was present at the gala launch of Football For Change in Liverpool on Saturday, and the Liverpool Echo’s Tony Scott shared what the Blues centre-forward said at the event.

Scott wrote via his personal Twitter profile: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin confirms he will be back in a few weeks.

“‘We’ll see for the Merseyside derby’.”

Promising

It looks like next weekend’s trip to Manchester City will come too soon for Calvert-Lewin, but the signs are promising after that Premier League encounter.

A week later, Everton travel to West London to face Brentford, and that looks like a more realistic return for Calvert-Lewin.

However, a Merseyside derby clash with Liverpool awaits three days later, and thus Rafa Benitez may opt to err on the side of caution and use that game for Calvert-Lewin’s return.

It seems unlikely he would be thrust straight into the starting line-up, but even a half-fit Calvert-Lewin could wreak havoc in the Liverpool defence in the last 20 minutes or so of the game.

After reportedly playing through injury for months, it is important that Everton bide their time with their star striker to ensure he does not suffer a breakdown that could derail their season even further.

But, while the Blues must be wary with him, there’s no denying this is a big boost for the club, and especially its supporters.
