Everton rule out move for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey – report

Everton have decided against a move for unwanted Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to il BiancoNero.

The Welsh international is poised to leave Turin in January, with some reports suggesting that the Old Lady could even terminate his contract to force his exit.

Everton have been one of a number of clubs who have been linked with signing Ramsey, with Rafa Benitez keen to add some creativity to his midfield.

However, il BiancoNero report that the Toffees have concluded that they would be unable to afford the 30-year-old, because “it is impossible to match the cheque that Juventus pays monthly”.

An expensive risk

There is no doubting how influential Ramsey can be when at his best, as he showed with two goals in Wales’s 5-1 win over Belarus on Saturday.

However, he has been plagued with injuries in recent years and has not seemed able to stay fit for a considerable period of time.

Signing him therefore would have been a risk for Everton, particularly considering the wages that the Toffees would have had to pay.

Ramsey signed a £400,000-per-week salary with Juventus in 2019, which made him the highest-earning British player ever based on basic salary.

That figure has been a big talking point throughout his time in Serie A, as supporters believe he has not put in the performances that merit that kind of money.

With Everton still acting with caution in the transfer market due to Financial Fair Play regulations, Benitez will certainly be looking at cheaper options to plug his midfield gap.

In other Everton news, a report suggests that the Toffees need to start their search for a successor to this star.
