Everton wanted to sign Conor Gallagher in 2019

Everton wanted to sign Conor Gallagher in 2019 and scouted him over ten times, according to a new report.

The Liverpool Echo claim that the Toffees’ talent spotters watched the 21-year-old a lot and asked the club to try and sign him.

However, they decided not to, and now he is on loan with Crystal Palace and has scored four goals and provided two assists this season and earned an England call-up.

Therefore, you would have to say that he looks to be one that got away.

Another transfer mistake from the Toffees.

Now, given that he was on loan with West Bromwich Albion last season and didn’t really do much, you could say that Palace took a risk by bringing him in.

However, he has been brilliant for them, and if you look at some of the options in Everton’s midfield, you would have to say that most of them aren’t as good as Gallagher.

Perhaps that is harsh, but the 21-year-old has found a way to impact games regularly this season, while many of the Toffees’ midfielders haven’t done that at all.

So, if you want to be harsh, you would have to say that missing out on Gallagher has proved to be another transfer mistake from the Toffees.

He has also been described as “brilliant” by Ian Wright this season [MOTD via Metro].

Of course, there is no telling how he would have done if the Toffees had made a move for him, but he looks born to play in the Premier League, and this has to go down as a missed opportunity.
