Everton midfielder Andre Gomes fit to face Manchester City

Everton man Andre Gomes should be fit to face Manchester City on Sunday, according to Ben Dinnery.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Premier League Injury News show, the injury expert provided an update on the 28-year-old, and it is good news.

Gomes has missed the last six matches, but he is back in full training and should Rafael Benitez want to use him, he will be ready to provide a boost for the Spaniard.

Dinnery said: “He was held back before the [international] break, but it’s good news, and he should be in and around the squad.”

Good news for the Toffees.

Given Everton’s injury problems in the centre of midfield, it is good that Benitez can now call upon another option in Gomes.

The former Barcelona man has plenty of experience in the Premier League and could provide a cool head against City.

He has been described as “fantastic” by Carlo Ancelotti in the past, so his return should be a boost even if he is just on the bench [Everton’s Twitter account].

The truth is Gomes probably hasn’t been at his best for a long time, but perhaps a consistent run of games alongside someone like Allan is just what he needs.

Certainly, we will be watching on with anticipation to see if Benitez decides to throw him into the action on Sunday either from the start or from the bench.

We believe that if he is fit and ready, the Toffees might as well use him because they don’t have that many other options really.

In other Everton news, the Toffees apparently ended Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Kylian Mbappe in the summer.
